William Blythe Showcases Flamtard Product Range at Vinyltec 2025
Last month we proudly presented at Vinyltec US, the premier technical conference for vinyl professionals, held in New Orleans. The event brought together global experts to discuss advancements in PVC technology, sustainability, and performance enhancement. Key themes included flame retardancy, material innovation, and regulatory compliance,
Cameron Day, Business Manager - Americas, introduced our latest research on formulating with zinc stannate chemistry to replace antimony trioxide (ATO) as a flame retardant in PVC. ATO is a widely used flame retardant additive for PVC, but over the past year it has been subject to significant price increases as a result of export restrictions and global supply constraints.
The presentation gave a 101 on replacing ATO with the Flamtard product range that includes Flamtard H (zinc hydroxystannate), Flamtard S (zinc stannate) and Flamtard X101, a newer product optimised for cost and performance. We employ techniques such as UL94 vertical burn, limiting oxygen index (LOI) and cone calorimetry to offer formulation solutions to replace antimony at a 1:1 ratio of Flamtard to ATO.
